Its Total Value Locked (TVL) has soared from approximately $196 million at launch to over $5.5 billion by October 2025, with bridged TVL reaching $9.042 billion. [3, 7, 27, 28, 36] The platform consistently handles daily trading volumes often exceeding $1 billion, and by July 2025, its cumulative trading volume had surpassed $1.5 trillion. The native utility token of the platform, HYPE, was launched via an airdrop in late 2024, notably without any venture capital funding, emphasizing a community-centric distribution model. [5, 12, 23, 27, 29, 38] HYPE serves multiple functions within the ecosystem, including governance, paying gas fees on HyperEVM, providing staking rewards, and offering trading fee discounts. [17, 19, 21] While dYdX utilizes a Cosmos-based L1 with an off-chain order book, Hyperliquid's custom L1 aims for a more integrated and performant on-chain trading experience. [17] However, Hyperliquid's reliance on a trusted bridge for cross-chain asset transfers can introduce elements of counterparty risk, contrasting with dYdX's IBC-based interoperability. [17]

Hyperliquid's roadmap includes several key initiatives aimed at further decentralization and ecosystem expansion. Future plans include the full decentralization of its validator network, which is a multi-phase process planned for the next 6-12 months, and open-sourcing its HyperBFT consensus code when deemed secure.
