Arbitrum Orbit adds custom Gas token functionality

According to The Block, Arbitrum's Orbit platform has added support for custom Gas tokens, allowing the Orbit blockchain to use specific ERC-20 tokens as Gas fees, thereby enhancing the utility of its native token and expanding its ecosystem.

David Dennis, Director of Product Marketing at Offchain Labs, stated that Xai Gaming has already utilized this feature, where the Xai protocol can represent users in paying Gas subsidies with XAI. Arbitrum also mentioned that other blockchain projects such as Caldera and Celestia will immediately take advantage of this feature. The custom Gas token functionality is only supported on the Orbit AnyTrust chain.
