BlackRock IBIT Becomes World's Largest Institutional Holder of BTC
BlackRock IBIT has become the world's largest institutional bitcoin holder with 357,509 bitcoins as of September 1, 2024, according to the latest data from HODL15Capital. MicroStrategy has leapfrogged Grayscale's GBTC (225,671) into second place with 226,500 bitcoins. Fidelity's FBTC ETF is in fourth place with 178,349 bitcoins, while stablecoin giant Tether is in fifth place with 75,354 bitcoins. Other major institutional holders include ARKB of ARK Invest/21 Shares (37,147) and bitcoin miner Marathon Digital (25,000). MicroStrategy, which announced earlier this year that it was transforming into a “bitcoin development company,” was the largest known institutional holder of bitcoin before the advent of bitcoin ETFs.
