Fed Governor Waller: 50 bps rate cut is appropriate, in the midst of a robust economy
Asked about the 50 basis point cut on 20 September, Fed Governor Waller said, ‘That's the right number. We're in a strong phase of the economy and we want to keep it that way. 50 basis points is the right policy move to achieve that. In my speech a fortnight ago, I mentioned that a 25 basis point cut would be a good option, but I was also open to a 50 basis point cut. The inflation data has led me to support a 50 basis point cut. Inflation has come down much faster than expected.’
