Foreign Media: Digital Chamber urges US government to allow employees to hold a small amount of cryptocurrency

Bitget2024/11/14 10:33

Bitget News, according to foreign media reports, the Digital Chamber is urging the U.S. government's Office of Ethics to reconsider its policy prohibiting federal employees from holding cryptocurrencies. The organization suggests that the Office of Ethics should allow federal employees to own a limited amount of digital assets. According to regulations issued in 2022, federal employees are prohibited from owning any cryptocurrency, including stablecoins, due to concerns about potential conflicts of interest. The Digital Chamber believes that allowing federal workers to own a limited amount of cryptocurrency would not create a conflict of interest. Instead, it would be consistent with current policies that allow government employees to hold a limited number of other financial assets. The group argues this approach provides a consistent framework for handling potential conflicts and also recommends extending similar exemptions to small crypto-assets in order ensure fair treatment across various asset classes. They emphasize that adopting a more balanced attitude towards digital asset ownership will help federal employees better understand the technology they regulate which in turn will contribute towards establishing regulatory frameworks balancing consumer protection, financial stability and technological advancement.
