Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Involvement in Bitfinex Bitcoin Theft
On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that Ilya Lichtenstein has been sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in the theft of around 120,000 bitcoin from Bitfinex in 2016. Prosecutors described his money laundering techniques as the most complex that IRS agents had seen to date. Meanwhile, Bitcoin has surged to a lifetime high of over $93,000 as demand in the U.S. continues to increase. Traders have set a $1 price target for Dogecoin, which has risen by over 100% in the past week.
