US prosecutors to search Do Kwon’s Twitter and emails for evidence
US prosecutors are intensifying their investigation into Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon by requesting search warrants for his personal and business email accounts, as well as his Twitter account, as part of discovery proceedings in his ongoing criminal case.
The prosecutors have expressed that they expect to find "multiple terabytes of data" relevant to the charges against Kwon, which include fraud allegations related to the collapse of the Terra ecosystem in 2022.
In a filing made on January 7, 2025, to the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, the US Attorney’s office confirmed they would be searching through Kwon’s business and personal email accounts, his Twitter account, and several of his electronic devices.
Kwon had been active on Twitter during the collapse of Terra, with his last post published just before his arrest in Montenegro.
The prosecutors plan to search his social media account, as well as any trading records and materials related to cryptocurrency exchanges.
Kwon is facing nine felony charges in the US, which include accusations of fraud.
He was extradited from Montenegro to the United States on December 31, 2024, after a prolonged extradition process involving the US and South Korea.
Additionally, at a status conference on January 8, 2025, it was revealed that some recordings of Kwon, made without his knowledge, could be included in the discovery process.
These recordings are also part of the evidence in the US Securities and Exchange Commission's civil case against Kwon and Terraform Labs.
Kwon’s trial is set to begin on January 26, 2026, and if convicted, he could face a lengthy prison sentence.
