Federal court rules Ledger must fight consumer claims in the U.S.
On April 8th, Ledger SAS must respond to consumer charges in the United States, alleging that it misleadingly advertised the security of its cryptocurrency "wallet" devices, a ruling by a U.S. federal court. Judge LaShonda A. Hunt of the Northern District of Illinois stated that while the sales contracts for Nano S and Nano X hardware devices mention the application of French law, this mention is not exclusive, and consumer charges do not depend on the application or interpretation of the contract, so the contract cannot limit the consumer's place of prosecution.
"SAS" is a common type of company in France, similar to the "Limited Liability Company" (LLC) in the United States, providing a flexible management structure and shareholder liability protection, typically used for small to medium-sized enterprises or startups.
