Deepening Rift Between the US and Europe, von der Leyen Calls for Strengthening European Defense Autonomy
According to a report by Jinse Finance, as the rift between the US and Europe deepens, accelerating the move away from reliance on US security and developing independent defense has become a consensus among European countries. On April 29, at the 2025 European People's Party Congress held in Valencia, Spain, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen once again mentioned that Europe should advance defense autonomy to hedge against the impact of the US's "major shift" in its policy towards Europe.
