Sei Labs has proposed adopting a pure EVM architecture in the recently launched governance framework
SIP - Scaling Improvement Proposal The Scaling Improvement Proposal (SIP) aims to simplify the architecture and accelerate the growth of the EVM developer ecosystem.
New York - May 7, 2025 - Sei Labs today submitted a new Sei Improvement Proposal, planning to deprecate CosmWasm and native Cosmos transactions in favor of a simplified pure EVM architecture. Sei Improvement Proposal-3 (SIP-3) is the second proposal since the establishment of the new Sei Improvement Proposal process, aimed at streamlining Sei's infrastructure and developer experience while bringing the protocol closer in alignment with the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
“This proposal reflects Sei Labs' commitment to a truly participatory design process for the Sei protocol,” said Sei Labs co-founder Jay Jog. “With EVM continuing to dominate on Sei, this proposal charts a clear path forward: a simplified, EVM-centric architecture designed to scale the next generation of decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, and real-world applications.”
The proposal comes after the recent launch of the Sei Improvement Proposal framework, which introduced a standardized open governance process through SIP-1. The SIP framework empowers developers, validators, and users to transparently and technically rigorously propose, discuss, and implement changes to the Sei protocol, supporting the network's path to a more decentralized and community-driven future.
The SIP framework standardizes the protocol upgrade lifecycle — from idea submission, community review to final implementation. The first SIP within the ecosystem has been submitted by Silo Finance, proposing to enhance Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) through off-chain transaction bundling, showcasing early adoption of the process by ecosystem contributors.
