Ethereum researcher: 51% attack on Ethereum is more difficult and costly than Bitcoin
according to Cointelegraph, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake said that launching a 51% attack on Bitcoin is cheaper than on Ethereum, costing about $10 billion. He pointed out that to control the Ethereum chain, one would need to control over 50% of staked ETH, currently worth close to $448 billion, with the actual cost potentially being even higher.
Drake emphasized that Ethereum's PoS mechanism has social layer defenses, which can identify and socially penalize attackers, while Bitcoin's PoW lacks this mechanism. Experts believe that although there is a theoretical risk, the threshold for launching a 51% attack on either BTC or ETH is extremely high in reality.
