Trump suggests imposing a 50% tariff on the EU starting June 1
On May 23, Jinshi Data reported that U.S. President Trump stated on social media that the main purpose of the EU's establishment was to take advantage of the U.S. in trade, but the EU is very difficult to deal with. Their strong trade barriers, value-added tax, absurd corporate penalties, non-monetary trade barriers, currency manipulation, unfair and unreasonable lawsuits against American companies, etc., have led to an annual U.S. trade deficit exceeding $2,500,000,000, which is completely unacceptable. Our discussions with them have made no progress. Therefore, I propose to directly impose a 50% tariff on the EU starting June 1, 2025. If products are manufactured or produced in the U.S., no tariffs will be imposed.
