Vitalik: L2 Cross-Chain Needs to Achieve L1-Level Censorship Resistance, Trustlessness, and Intermediary-Free Characteristics
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded to Paradigm CTO Georgios Konstantopoulos's view on the X platform that "cross-chain interoperability has been resolved at the infrastructure level," stating that it is only "truly resolved" when cross-L2 operations can match L1 ETH native transfers in terms of censorship resistance, trustlessness, and lack of intermediaries.
Vitalik refers to this as the "no-regression principle," emphasizing that new systems must retain the core attributes of the original systems; otherwise, they cannot be considered sufficiently complete.
