Fidelity files for Solana ETF with staking option in US
- Fidelity’s Solana ETF Adds Staking Feature
- Proposal indicates greater institutional interest in Solana
- SEC evaluates new ETFs with staking rewards
Fidelity Investments has filed a formal application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a Solana (SOL) ETF with staking functionality. The new fund seeks to offer investors direct exposure to the cryptocurrency’s price, as well as additional rewards generated through network validation.
The filing marks yet another move by Fidelity into the cryptocurrency market, positioning itself alongside other major asset managers that are expanding their offerings with digital assets. The proposal stands out for including staking, a differentiator compared to existing cryptocurrency ETFs in the country, which generally do not offer this feature due to regulatory uncertainties.
According to the SEC filing, the fund’s goal is to reflect Solana’s spot price performance and accumulate earnings from staking activities. This practice allows investors to indirectly participate in the security and validation of transactions on the Solana blockchain by receiving rewards in SOL tokens.
Other companies, such as Bitwise and Canary, have also recently updated their Solana ETF applications to include staking, reinforcing a trend of greater acceptance of this functionality among major players in the financial sector. Experts interpret the move as a reflection of a possible change in the SEC’s stance, especially after the recent change in leadership at the regulatory body.
The inclusion of staking in regulated financial products represents an important step towards expanding institutional access to the Solana ecosystem. The market is now closely monitoring the SEC’s analysis of these new ETF formats, while anticipation grows for decisions that could open up new investment opportunities in cryptocurrencies.
