Solana Prioritizes Unified Layer 1 Architecture
Solana executes all applications in a single Layer 1, preserving one worldwide state and removing the necessity of associated scaling layers. This framework enables Solana to provide rapid performance, uniform charges, and approximate fragmentation on its chain. Externality-free rollups also allow developers and users to interact with the base chain directly instead of using rollups.
It supports high throughput and is not prone to congestion or fee volatility because of its parallel execution engine and number of validators. It is composable, enabling atomic transactions to cross dapps and achieve efficiency and liquidity sharing. Consequently, Solana keeps the notion of all economic activity on-chain, thus not partitioning revenue into various trust models.
This approach contrasts sharply with modular chains, which outsource scalability to off-chain environments. Solana’s model does not use multisig-based rollups, ensuring that security remains native to the base layer.
Ethereum Expands Through Layer 2 Ecosystem
Ethereum adheres to the modular approach, and scaling via Layer 2s offers further capacity and dedicated environments. Rollups execute transactions off-chain and are settled back to the Ethereum mainnet to be final and secure. This plan maximizes throughput without removing Ethereum’s settlement hub layer.
The Layer 2s provide application-specific customization so that a chain can prioritize performance, privacy, or data models. This flexibility enables businesses to execute branded experiences with an improved user experience and reduced cost. The zk-rollup, optimistic rollup, and hybrid data availability systems have experienced a considerable boom in Ethereum’s ecosystem.
Ethereum retains its dominance in total value locked and institutional integrations across major sectors. It serves as the base layer for a growing modular stack, where developers can launch sovereign or shared L2 environments. This structure has become attractive to enterprise and public sector applications seeking regulatory clarity and modular deployment.

Solana achieves this by improving base performance, while Ethereum offers greater flexibility through its modular approach. Ultimately, their decisions still determine developer adoption, user experience, and traction within the blockchain economy.
