Ethereum Hits New All-Time High at 32,950 TPS Ahead of Fusaka Upgrade

Quick Breakdown

  • Ethereum sets a new record at 32,950 TPS, driven by Lighter’s high-throughput ZK rollup activity.
  • Recent gas limit increases boost L1 performance and expand settlement bandwidth for Layer-2 networks.
  • Arkham highlights RWA tokenization as the next primary growth driver for DeFi amid accelerating institutional demand.

The Ethereum ecosystem has set another significant performance milestone, reaching 32,950 transactions per second (TPS), according to new data from Arkham. The figure breaks last week’s 31,000 TPS record and comes just 24 hours before the network’s anticipated Fusaka upgrade.

ETHEREUM HITS ALL-TIME-HIGH FOR TPS

The maximum observed transactions per second across Ethereum and all Ethereum scaling solutions just hit another ALL TIME HIGH of 32,950 – beating the previous week’s record of 31,000.

Lighter drives the latest surge in Ethereum throughput

Arkham reports that the bulk of the TPS surge is being powered by Lighter, an Ethereum-native perpetual exchange operating on a zero-knowledge rollup. The ZK-powered design has consistently delivered throughput in the thousands, far above that of other Layer 2 networks. Base remains the second-fastest L2, typically processing between 100-300 TPS. With rollups accounting for the majority of activity, Ethereum continues its push to close the gap with Solana’s theoretical 65,000 TPS threshold.

The ecosystem’s daily average TPS reached 325 yesterday, rising from roughly 250 at the start of the year. Arkham notes that future upgrades, such as PeerDAS, are expected to further expand data capacity, with some analysts projecting long-term throughput of 100,000 TPS or more.

Gas limit increase strengthens L1 and L2 capacity

Arkham also highlights Ethereum’s recent gas limit increase from 45 million to 60 million, which went live on November 25 after receiving validator approval. The adjustment doubles capacity year-over-year and directly boosts Layer-1 throughput while indirectly improving settlement conditions for Layer-2 networks.

Rising TPS continues to push transaction fees lower across major rollups, further opening the door for everyday crypto usage. With the Fusaka upgrade set to activate tomorrow, the network enters the week on a wave of momentum driven by real, measurable throughput gains.

RWA tokenization emerges as DeFi’s next growth engine

Meanwhile, Arkham’s latest research highlights another accelerating trend: real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Tokenized treasury bills, commodities, and real estate are increasingly reshaping DeFi’s market structure, linking blockchain rails with traditional financial infrastructure and creating a new pipeline of institutional-grade on-chain liquidity.
