Google’s AI-powered virtual fitting app Doppl introduces a new feed for discovering and shopping products
Google Unveils Shoppable AI-Powered Feed in Doppl App
On Monday, Google revealed a new feature for its experimental Doppl app: a discovery feed where users can shop directly from AI-curated recommendations. Doppl leverages artificial intelligence to show users how various clothing options might appear on them.
This innovative feed is designed to help users explore and virtually try on new fashion items. Most products showcased are available for purchase, with convenient links that take shoppers straight to the retailers’ websites.
The feed stands out by presenting AI-generated videos of actual products and offering outfit suggestions tailored to each user’s unique style. Google personalizes these recommendations by analyzing the style preferences users share with Doppl and tracking their interactions within the app.
This launch comes as short-form video platforms like TikTok and Instagram have popularized the habit of scrolling through visually engaging feeds and making purchases based on what’s seen. Unlike those platforms, where influencers display products, Google’s new feature relies entirely on AI-generated content.
While some users may be hesitant about a feed composed solely of AI-created videos, Google appears to be embracing this familiar format to highlight products in a way that resonates with today’s shoppers. The move also signals Google’s efforts to experiment with fresh e-commerce approaches as it faces increasing competition from Amazon and social media giants.
AI-generated videos are not entirely new to Doppl. The app has previously allowed users to see digital avatars of themselves dressed in different outfits, and now it can animate these images into videos, offering a more lifelike preview of how clothes might look in motion.
The updated discovery feed is now available to Doppl users aged 18 and over on both iOS and Android devices in the United States.
Although an all-AI content feed might have seemed unusual not long ago, the concept is rapidly gaining momentum. For instance, OpenAI introduced Sora, a social platform dedicated to AI-generated videos, in September. Similarly, Meta has launched “Vibes,” a short-form AI video feed within its Meta AI app.
