Amazon Expands Same-Day Grocery Delivery to More U.S. Locations
Amazon revealed that its Same-Day Delivery service for fresh groceries is now accessible in more than 2,300 cities and towns across the United States. The company also shared plans to introduce this offering to additional locations in 2026.
First introduced in August, Amazon’s Same-Day Delivery for perishable foods was launched to strengthen its position against competitors like Instacart and Walmart+ in the fast-growing quick-commerce sector.
Since the rollout, shoppers have been able to order a wide variety of items, including fresh produce, dairy products, meats, seafood, baked goods, and frozen foods. These groceries can be delivered alongside electronics, books, pantry staples, snacks, and everyday household necessities such as paper towels and toothpaste.
To maintain product quality, Amazon utilizes a specialized, temperature-controlled fulfillment system. Each order undergoes a rigorous six-step inspection both upon arrival and before being dispatched. Items that require temperature control are shipped in insulated packaging to ensure freshness.
According to Amazon, nine out of the ten most frequently purchased items for rapid delivery are now fresh groceries.
Most Popular Items for Same-Day Delivery
- Bananas
- Haas avocados
- Strawberries
- Honeycrisp apples
- Limes
- Blueberries
- Blackberries
- Organic bananas
- Navel oranges
- Bathroom tissues
The company also highlighted that sales of perishable groceries have increased thirtyfold since January. Customers who include fresh groceries in their Same-Day Delivery orders tend to shop nearly twice as frequently as those who do not.
Prime members receive free same-day delivery on orders over $25. If the order total is below this threshold, a $2.99 fee applies. Non-Prime customers can access the service for a $12.99 fee per order, regardless of the purchase amount.
Since August, Amazon has expanded its selection of perishable goods for Same-Day Delivery by more than 30%, adding thousands of popular products from Whole Foods Market to its offerings.
