Vitalik: New AI labs should focus on human augmentation tools rather than long-term autonomous systems
Foresight News reported that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that if someone wants to establish a new "AI laboratory because existing labs are not beneficial to humanity," there should be a clear charter focusing on human augmentation tools and not developing any projects with more than one minute of autonomous time. He believes that even if all arguments about safety turn out to be wrong, ASI companies pursuing maximum autonomy will continue to emerge, while the niche market of human augmentation remains underdeveloped. In addition, he called for open-sourcing code as much as possible.
