SEC Division of Corporation Finance Deputy Director Cicely LaMothe Announces Retirement
According to Odaily, Cicely LaMothe, Deputy Director of the Division of Corporation Finance at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has announced her retirement. Over the past year, she played a significant role in crypto regulation, including issuing clarifications that Meme coins are not considered securities and outlining the SEC’s regulatory stance on staking services. LaMothe joined the SEC in 2002 and was involved in drafting key registration statement policies.
Her departure coincides with the SEC’s second year of adopting a more crypto-friendly approach. During this period, the SEC has approved listing standards for certain crypto asset-related ETFs, dropped several enforcement cases against well-known crypto companies, and advanced “Project Crypto” to update the regulatory framework for digital assets.
Additionally, the SEC has confirmed that Nekia Hackworth Jones, Deputy Director of Enforcement for the Southeast Region, completed her term at the end of December.
