Legal Cannabis Sales Surge in New York
Last year saw a significant increase in the number of New Yorkers purchasing legal marijuana, even as state cannabis regulators faced some challenges. According to the Office of Cannabis Management's latest annual report, legal cannabis sales in New York climbed past $2.5 billion, with over $1.5 billion generated in 2025 alone. This growth comes after a turbulent start to the market three years ago.
The total number of licensed cannabis retailers across the state more than doubled, rising from 261 in 2024 to 556 in 2025. Of these, over 200 dispensaries are now operating within New York City. Legal marijuana sales have also contributed upwards of $360 million in tax revenue for the state and local governments.
