Two factions in Yemen engage in fierce clashes in the eastern province

Golden Ten Data reported on January 3 that on January 2 local time, armed forces of both the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council clashed in multiple locations in Hadhramaut province in eastern Yemen. According to sources from the Yemeni government and Hadhramaut province, the Yemeni government forces have taken control of the headquarters of the Southern Transitional Council's 37th Brigade in Hadhramaut province. On January 2, Hadhramaut Governor Salim Hambashi announced on Yemen's national television that the Yemeni government had launched a military operation against the Southern Transitional Council in the province. Hambashi stated that the operation aimed to reclaim military facilities in Hadhramaut province and to maintain the province's security and stability. He emphasized that this operation is a "peaceful action" and should not be regarded as "war" or an attempt to escalate the situation, but rather as a "preventive security measure." He noted that previous attempts to ease tensions through dialogue had failed. After the operation began, Southern Transitional Council spokesperson Mohammed Naqeeb posted on social media that the council is fully prepared and will respond forcefully to the military action launched by the Yemeni government.
