Lucid Motors increased electric vehicle production in 2025 following initial challenges with the Gravity SUV.
Lucid Motors Doubles EV Output in 2025
In 2025, Lucid Motors managed to produce twice as many electric vehicles as it did the previous year, signaling a significant recovery from earlier manufacturing setbacks, particularly with the launch of its Gravity SUV.
On Monday, the company reported that it completed the year with 18,378 EVs built, including 8,412 units manufactured in the final quarter alone. This fourth-quarter output surpassed the total number of vehicles produced at Lucid’s Casa Grande, Arizona facility during the first half of the year. Additionally, Lucid delivered 15,841 vehicles to customers throughout 2025—a 55% jump compared to 2024.
Looking Ahead: New Models and Market Expansion
This strong finish positions Lucid for a pivotal year ahead, as the company prepares to launch its first model based on a new mid-sized electric vehicle platform. Priced around $50,000, this upcoming vehicle will compete directly with the Tesla Model Y and Rivian’s anticipated R2 SUV.
Production Goals vs. Reality
Despite these gains, Lucid’s current achievements fall short of the ambitious targets set during its $4 billion reverse merger in 2021. At that time, the company projected it would deliver 135,000 vehicles in 2025, including 86,000 Gravity SUVs, 42,000 Air sedans, and 7,000 units of its yet-to-be-released mid-sized EV.
However, these lofty expectations quickly proved unattainable as Lucid faced a range of obstacles, from manufacturing and supply chain issues to fluctuating demand, all exacerbated by the pandemic’s impact on the automotive sector. The company encountered particular difficulties in early 2025 while scaling up Gravity SUV production, and has since been working to resolve various quality concerns. In December, interim CEO Marc Winterhoff addressed customers directly, acknowledging their “frustration” over ongoing problems.
“Persistent software challenges have unfortunately impacted our customers’ satisfaction and experience. Please know that we are fully committed to resolving these matters,” Winterhoff assured in his message.
