EU competition authorities will reach a decision regarding Google's acquisition of Wiz by February 10
EU Review of Alphabet's $32 Billion Wiz Acquisition Nears Decision
The European Union's antitrust authorities are set to announce their verdict by February 10 on Alphabet's proposed $32 billion purchase of cybersecurity firm Wiz, marking the tech giant's most significant acquisition to date, as indicated by a recent European Commission filing.
Alphabet revealed its intention to acquire Wiz in March of last year, aiming to strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities and gain a competitive advantage in the cloud computing sector, where it faces rivals such as Amazon.com and Microsoft.
In recent years, major technology mergers have come under heightened regulatory examination, with watchdogs concerned that such deals could further entrench the dominance of leading companies.
The European Commission, responsible for overseeing competition within the EU, may approve the transaction outright, request certain conditions, or launch a comprehensive investigation if substantial issues are identified during its initial assessment.
The deal previously received approval from U.S. regulators in November of last year.
