Soybean Market Update: Midday Gains Observed

At midday, soybean prices have risen by 2 to nearly 6 cents. The national average cash price for soybeans, as reported by cmdtyView, has increased by 3 cents to reach $9.91. Soymeal futures are trading higher, up between 30 cents and $1.20, while soy oil futures have advanced by 30 to 40 points. Overnight, 84 additional January soybean contracts were delivered, along with 52 for soymeal and 166 for January soybean oil.

This morning, the USDA announced a private export sale of 198,000 metric tons of soybeans to undisclosed buyers.

According to the latest USDA Export Sales report, U.S. soybean export commitments have reached 28.576 million metric tons as of January 1, with 29% attributed to the same week in the 2024/25 marketing year. This figure represents 64% of the USDA’s annual export target, which is below the typical pace of 82%. Actual shipments stand at 16.347 million metric tons, a 45% decrease from last year, accounting for 37% of the USDA’s forecast and trailing the average of 57%.

China’s state-owned Sinograin has announced an auction for 1.1 million metric tons of imported soybeans, covering the years 2022 to 2025, scheduled for January 13.

The upcoming WASDE report, set for release on Monday, is expected to indicate that U.S. soybean ending stocks for the 2025/26 season will be 295 million bushels, according to a Bloomberg analyst survey. This would mark a month-over-month increase of 5 million bushels.
