Despite delivering third-quarter 2025 results that missed expectations—reporting an adjusted EPS of $2.10 and revenue of $3.68 billion on October 27—Principal Financial’s stock rose 3.3% the following day. The positive reaction was driven by year-over-year growth in adjusted operating earnings to $473.7 million. Notable gains included a 3% increase in specialty benefits premiums and fees to $845.2 million, an 11% rise in net revenue from retirement and income solutions to $751.7 million, and a 6% expansion in assets under management, reaching $784.3 billion.

Analyst Ratings

The consensus among analysts covering PFG is generally cautious, with the stock receiving an overall "Hold" recommendation. Out of 14 analysts, three rate it as a "Strong Buy," nine suggest "Hold," and two assign a “Strong Sell” rating. At present, the stock is trading above the average analyst price target of $89.58.
