Apple has officially announced a collaboration with Google to strengthen its AI offerings, including improvements to Siri.
In a joint statement, the companies shared, “After a thorough review, we found Google’s technology to be the best fit for Apple’s foundational AI models, and we’re eager to introduce innovative experiences to our users.”
This announcement confirms earlier about Apple negotiating with Google. While neither company has disclosed the financial details, previous coverage suggests Apple may pay Google approximately for access to its AI technology. Before finalizing this deal, Apple reportedly evaluated solutions from other AI leaders such as and Anthropic.
The multi-year agreement will see Apple leveraging Google’s Gemini AI models and cloud infrastructure to power its future AI systems. According to sources, this arrangement is not exclusive. Traditionally, Apple has prioritized building its own hardware and software in-house.
Apple has faced for lagging behind competitors in AI, especially regarding Siri’s capabilities. However, Apple has been quietly advancing its own foundational models. Privacy remains a key focus, with much of the AI processing happening directly on devices or within tightly controlled systems. Apple has stated it will uphold these privacy standards as it works with Google.
Despite these efforts, Apple’s approach to AI has been described as subtle and sometimes underwhelming, lacking the immediate impact of tools like ChatGPT or Gemini. Many users are still waiting for a significant upgrade to Siri.
The launch of a more advanced, personalized Siri assistant has been several times, but Apple has confirmed that an enhanced version is expected to arrive later this year, with a major update anticipated in the spring.
