Slackbot Evolves into a Powerful AI Assistant

Slackbot, the automated helper integrated into Slack’s messaging platform, is stepping into a new role as an advanced AI agent. Salesforce CTO Parker Harris envisions this transformation making Slackbot as widely used as ChatGPT.

On Tuesday, Salesforce introduced the upgraded Slackbot, now available to Business+ and Enterprise+ users. This enhanced AI assistant can search for information, compose emails, arrange meetings, and more—all from within Slack. With the right permissions, it can also access and interact with other popular business tools like Microsoft Teams and Google Drive, enabling seamless workflows across multiple platforms without leaving Slack.

Salesforce’s Push into Enterprise AI

As competition intensifies in the enterprise software sector, Salesforce and its rivals are heavily investing in AI innovation to maintain and expand their market presence. The revamped Slackbot, first revealed at Salesforce’s annual Dreamforce event, is a key component of the company’s broader AI-driven strategy.

According to Harris, the latest version of Slackbot is a complete departure from its earlier iterations, though the familiar name remains due to its strong brand recognition.

Unlike previous updates, Slack typically enhances its products through incremental improvements rather than major feature launches. The new Slackbot marks a significant shift from this approach, representing a major leap forward.

“It’s more than just an agent—it’s a super agent designed to act as your digital coworker,” Harris explained. “Built on generative AI, it delivers a carefully crafted experience that employees and users will appreciate.”

Before launching new tools like Slackbot, Salesforce conducts extensive internal testing. Harris joked that the company prefers to “drink its own champagne” first. He noted that Slackbot has become the most widely adopted internal tool they’ve ever released.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Slackbot

Harris shared that the high level of voluntary adoption among employees is a strong indicator of Slackbot’s product-market fit. “It’s being embraced by users, not just imposed by management,” he said.

This launch marks only the start of Slackbot’s evolution as an AI agent. Salesforce plans to expand its capabilities beyond text-based interactions within Slack, including adding voice features and enabling Slackbot to browse the web alongside users.

“I firmly believe that investing in Slackbot will benefit not only Slack but the entire Salesforce ecosystem,” Harris concluded.
