Strong Start for 2026: Robust 30-Year Treasury Auction
The first complete week of 2026 concluded with an exceptionally strong 30-year Treasury bond auction. The U.S. Treasury issued $22 billion in long-term bonds, achieving a high yield of 4.825%. This rate was only slightly above December’s 4.773% and surpassed the When Issued yield of 4.833% by 0.8 basis points.
Key Auction Highlights
- Bid-to-Cover Ratio: The auction attracted a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.418, an increase from last month’s 2.365 and the highest level since June.
- Foreign Participation: International investors accounted for 66.8% of purchases, up from 65.4% in December and well above the six-auction average of 63.7%.
- Direct Bidders: Direct bidders received 21.3% of the allocation, slightly below recent averages.
