A significant turning point in Trump’s dispute with the Fed is expected to take place at the Supreme Court next week
Supreme Court to Review Federal Reserve Independence Amid Ongoing DOJ Probe
While the Justice Department’s examination of the Federal Reserve continues, the central bank’s struggle to remain free from political influence is set to reach the Supreme Court. On January 21, the justices will consider arguments concerning former President Donald Trump’s attempt to dismiss Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. Last year, members of the administration accused Cook of mortgage fraud involving properties purchased through government-supported housing initiatives. Although Trump sought to oust Cook, judicial rulings have so far blocked her removal. If the administration prevails in this case, it could establish a significant precedent for the authority to remove central bank officials.
