Trump suggests imposing additional tariffs as part of effort to purchase Greenland
Trump Considers Tariffs Linked to Greenland Dispute
On Friday, President Donald Trump indicated he might introduce tariffs against nations that do not cooperate with the United States regarding Greenland. Speaking at the White House, Trump emphasized the strategic importance of Greenland for U.S. national security, stating, "We need Greenland for national security. So I may do that."
These remarks highlight Trump's increasing determination to bring Greenland under U.S. influence, and suggest he is prepared to use tariffs—a tactic he has frequently employed in international negotiations—to achieve his goals. The White House did not provide further clarification when contacted by CNBC. Previously, the Trump administration has acknowledged that it is considering a range of strategies in relation to Greenland.
