The Southern Transitional Council of Yemen announces the start of a two-year transitional period and plans to hold a referendum on the southern issue.According to Golden Ten Data on January 3, Aidarus al-Zoubaidi, Chairman of the Southern Transitional Council of Yemen, announced the launch of a two-year "transitional phase." During this period, dialogue between the North and South will be promoted, and at the end of the transitional phase, a national referendum will be held on the future status of the South to exercise the "right to self-determination." The relevant referendum will seek to be conducted under the supervision of the United Nations. The Southern Transitional Council calls on the international community to provide support and mediation for dialogue between the North and South, in order to promote a comprehensive end to the conflict. In addition, the Southern Transitional Council stated its willingness to maintain communication with the "national forces" in the North, negotiate relevant arrangements during the transitional period based on common interests, and emphasized that the South will continue to support northern forces in dealing with the Houthi armed group and promote the reconstruction of national institutions.
