Senator Lummis will not seek re-election after her term ends in January next yearPANews, December 20—According to The Block, Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis's term will end in January 2027, but she has announced that she will not seek re-election. She posted on X on Friday, stating that the various upheavals last fall left her physically and mentally exhausted. Senator Lummis is the chair of the Senate Banking Committee's Subcommittee on Digital Assets and has been actively involved in congressional efforts to regulate the cryptocurrency industry over the past few years. She has worked closely with New York Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to advance comprehensive legislation aimed at establishing a regulatory framework for digital assets, including clarifying the regulatory responsibilities of agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. After multiple meetings, the Senate Banking Committee has been actively advancing this legislation, with participants including Democrats, Republicans, representatives from the cryptocurrency industry, and stakeholders from the traditional financial sector. The current goal is to revise the bill and have it reviewed by the committee early next year, but it still needs to be coordinated with ongoing work by the Senate Agriculture Committee. Afterward, the bill will require a full Senate vote and reconciliation with the version passed by the House in the summer.
